Nintendo Switch 2 Enhances Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with Cloud Save Support

by Joseph Nov 26,2025

Nintendo has announced that the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 version will include cloud save functionality.

It was previously revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 would feature upgraded versions of several Switch 1 titles, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, as IGN noted last week, a disclaimer raised concerns among fans that some games, including this title, might not support Nintendo's cloud save feature as expected.

Initially, Nintendo's website for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition included a disclaimer stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature."

Nintendo has since updated its website with clarified details. While the Donkey Kong Bananza page no longer mentions cloud saves, the Tears of the Kingdom page now features a revised disclaimer: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."

This update should ease concerns for Switch 2 owners.

This indicates that players can transfer their existing Switch 1 Tears of the Kingdom saves to the Switch 2, though transferring Switch 2 saves back to the original system will not be possible (thanks, Eurogamer).

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition page now carries the same message, indicating a consistent approach to save transfers.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders launched overnight, priced at $449.99, and demand was as high as anticipated. Visit IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide for details.
