The highly acclaimed hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has taken the gaming world by storm on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, NetEase, the game's developer, has been clear that it won't be making its way to the current Nintendo Switch, leaving fans of the console disappointed. But there's a glimmer of hope for Nintendo enthusiasts with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a Switch 2 release. The news is promising for Switch fans. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled just last month, though details about its capabilities are still sparse. It's shaping up to be a more powerful version of the current Switch, with rumors of innovative features like a mouse-like controller functionality. This could potentially enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, bringing it closer to a PC-like feel, although the exact implementation remains to be seen.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, a Nintendo Direct event is scheduled for April 2, which may shed more light on the console's future. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals continues to thrive on other platforms. Our review gave it an 8/10, praising it for "following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the roster on February 21.
