Upcoming Updates for Marvel Rivals
New Team-Up Skills and Changes
Marvel Rivals Game Director Guangyun Chen has exciting news for fans: significant changes to team-up skills are on the horizon for Season 2. In a detailed interview with PC Gamer on March 14, Chen outlined the team's vision for the next major update.
"Starting from Season 2, we will introduce new Team-Up skills with each seasonal update and refine some existing ones," Chen stated. "Combined with overall balance adjustments, this will forge a fresh combat environment and enhance the gaming experience for the season."
Currently, the game features 17 team-up skills, including Ragnarok Rebirth for Hela with either Loki or Thor, Lunar Force for Cloak & Dagger and Moon Knight, and Allied Agents for Hawkeye and Black Widow. With the ever-growing roster, NetEase faces the exciting challenge of balancing these powerful hero combinations.
Balancing Heroes
Balancing the heroes is no small feat, especially as Marvel Rivals continues to expand its character lineup. Chen shared the team's approach to this challenge: "We will closely monitor key metrics for heroes across different modes. In Quick Match and Competitive Modes, we analyze data such as win rates, pick rates, damage, healing, damage taken, and final blows for heroes at various ranks and in different tournaments. This data forms the backbone of our balancing efforts."
He added, "We also analyze the composition of hero lineups and their win rates within these modes, which is crucial for our overall balancing strategy. Additionally, we pay close attention to feedback from the player community, which is a vital part of our decision-making process."
In a prior interview with Metro in January, Chen mentioned that a new hero would be introduced every half-season. With each season spanning about three months, Marvel Rivals could see up to eight new heroes annually. As the game's roster grows, so does the complexity of maintaining balance.
Chen also provided an update on future content, stating, "The content for Season 2 is ready and set to go. The designs for Seasons 3 and 4 have been completed and are currently in intensive development! Everything is progressing smoothly." This aligns with NetEase's long-term commitment to support Marvel Rivals for over a decade, promising fans a continuous stream of exciting updates.
