Pokémon TCG Pocket Update: Trading Feature Delayed Until Autumn

by Sarah May 03,2025

While the launch of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was met with enthusiasm, it quickly encountered a significant challenge with its trading system. Initially, the trading feature was hindered by the need for scarce currency and restrictive trading rules, but recent updates promise to address these issues effectively.

A key change is the complete removal of Trade Tokens, eliminating the need to trade cards to acquire trading currency. Now, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity will require Shinedust, which players can earn by opening booster packs and receiving cards already registered in their Card Dex.

Existing Trade Tokens will be converted to Shinedust. Given that Shinedust is also necessary for obtaining flair, further modifications are in the pipeline. Additionally, an upcoming update will enable players to share cards they're interested in trading through an in-game function.

As previously discussed, the initial implementation of trading seemed lackluster. The challenge lies in balancing the need for restrictions in a digital environment to prevent abuse, which differs significantly from real-life trading scenarios.

Despite the recognition of these issues by the Pokémon TCG Pocket team, the timeline for these changes extends until autumn, leaving many players waiting longer than they would like. It's spring now, and patience is wearing thin.
