REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling are Getting Major Tweaks, Says Developer

REPO's developer is refining its difficulty curve by integrating new gameplay elements every 10 levels. Here's what's changing with the Overcharge system and how the team is engaging with player feedback during the open beta.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge System Redesign

The recent open beta for REPO's upcoming update provided crucial player insights, particularly regarding the Overcharge feature that caught Semiwork's attention.

This mechanic enables players to counter enemies by lifting and throwing them against hard surfaces or away from allies. However, strategic use is required—an overcharge meter builds up during use, and when fully charged, triggers a player explosion.

Originally available from the beginning, Overcharge will now unlock at level 10. The development team plans to introduce additional complexity mechanics at every 10-level interval (levels 20, 30, etc.), with Overcharge serving as the initial tier in this progressive challenge system.

These mechanics will connect to the game's narrative universe. As Semiwork explained, "This system will be integrated with the lore. It's not just an arbitrary feature—there's meaningful context behind it, and we'll reveal more details later."

Developers Participated in Open Beta Matchmaking

Throughout the open beta, Semiwork developers joined random matchmaking sessions anonymously, gathering direct player input on potential improvements. Developer Pontus Sundstrom expressed enthusiasm about seeing players engage with the new content.

"I've played alongside many community members incognito through random matchmaking," Sundstrom noted. "I've been asking questions and discovering what aspects players find most enjoyable."

Semiwork intends to continue enhancing REPO using community feedback collected during the beta. Future updates will bring additional features, with more announcements coming soon. For the latest R.E.P.O. news, check our article below!
